For the Win

A few folks have written me recently to ask about Lucia and Katie’s trail races. So today we are excited to give you an update!

Last weekend, Katie completed the Sawatch Ascent 50K near Mt. Princeton, CO. This 33-mile race with 7,000 feet of elevation gain was the first ultra she had done since 2017, and it was equally challenging and unbelievably beautiful.

A highlight of the race was seeing a friend of Walden Hyde at the starting line (and then seeing this friend run past around mile 20!). The community who gathers to race, support, and volunteer for these events is one of the best aspects of ultra running.

Lucia completed the week-long Grand to Grand Ultra stage race. This notoriously hot and challenging event covering 171 miles and 21,000 feet of elevation gain through sand dunes and slot canyons, open desert and hidden arroyos—all under the blazing Southwestern sun.

Beyond simply finishing the race, Lucia also placed first in her age group and was the sixth woman overall!
